8.2 Consulting AG: Start-up & quality monitoring for offshore wind farm “Hollandse Kust Zuid”

8.2 Consulting AG commissioned by Vattenfall for commissioning and quality monitoring for the completion of the world's largest offshore wind farm

Ten months after the start of series production of the newly developed SG 11.0-200 DD wind turbine (WEA) from the manufacturer Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy in Cuxhaven, the “Hollandse Kust Zuid” offshore project is entering the next round.

From May 2022, the installation and commissioning of a total of 140 wind turbines will start 18 to 36 kilometers off the Dutch coast, during which 8.2 Consulting AG will take over the quality monitoring of the commissioning and completion activities of the new wind turbines.

The inspectors from 8.2 Consulting AG are currently monitoring the quality of the series production of the gondola assemblies at the Cuxhaven site. In parallel, the prefabrication of the first 4 systems in Brande (Denmark) has already been supervised over a period of 12 months and supported with existing expertise. The aim was and is always to deliver the highest possible quality for profitable operation at the “Hollandse Kust Zuid” (HKZ) offshore wind farm.

With the follow-up order, which was concluded on 04.04.2022, it is now also going out into the construction field from May this year. From the base port of IJmuiden (Netherlands), the inspectors will travel on a CTV (crew transfer vessel) to the world's largest offshore wind farm off the Dutch coast to date. Two inspectors from 8.2 Consulting AG are permanently on site for Vattenfall for a period of 12 months.

“After the prototype gondolas in Denmark and the series gondolas in Germany, the contract to supervise construction and commissioning is already the third package at the HKZ wind farm. As a team, we are very grateful for this expression of trust from Vattenfall. We are pleased to be able to continue to contribute to the success of the project through our efforts.” Michael Renner, project manager at 8.2 Consulting AG.

“8.2 proved to be a big win for Vattenfall during the production of the wind turbines in Brande, Denmark, and Cuxhaven, Germany, as we gained insights into the quality performance of production and were able to ensure that Vattenfall's interests were well represented. We chose 8.2 because of their extensive knowledge of direct drives on the Siemens Gamesa platform, together with a team that has already worked on the SG 11-200 DD, and because of their current performance in the HKZ project. I am looking forward to continuing to work with 8.2 on the commissioning and completion of the wind turbine at the HKZ wind farm.” Ben Flett, wind turbine engineer, Vattenfall.

Preparations are in full swing so that start-up and completion work can begin at the end of May. By late summer 2023, all 140 wind turbines are to be properly commissioned and generate clean electricity for future owners Vattenfall, Allianz and BASF.
